ABOUT

My orthopaedic career spans India and the UK, including more than 15 years in the NHS at university hospitals in London, Norwich, Nottingham and Birmingham. I completed my surgical master’s at the University of Edinburgh, where I was awarded the Sir Harold Stiles Medal.

I returned to Coimbatore to offer consultant-led orthopaedic care shaped by Indian and international experience, with particular expertise in a broad range of bone, joint and musculoskeletal conditions.

My practice is built around precise diagnosis, evidence-based treatment, clear communication and personalised care — helping patients understand their condition, make informed decisions and return confidently to active life.

PATIENT EDUCATION

Understand Your Symptoms

Most Problems Here Don't Need Surgery

Coming early is often what keeps it that way

Many people put off seeing a doctor about a joint, bone or spine problem because they are worried they may be told they need an operation. In practice, most of the problems described on these pages are treated without surgery.

Physiotherapy, activity and posture changes, strengthening, appropriate footwear or bracing, medication and — where useful — a targeted injection will resolve or substantially improve many orthopaedic conditions.

Surgery is usually considered only for a smaller group of patients: for example, where there is significant nerve compression, a structural injury unlikely to heal adequately on its own, or symptoms that have not improved despite appropriate conservative treatment.

Coming in early is not the first step toward an operation. More often, it is what helps prevent one.

IMPORTANT

IF YOU HAVE ANY OF THESE SYMPTOMS SEEK URGENT MEDICAL HELP

The reassurance above applies to ordinary aches, stiffness and pain that develop gradually. The situations below need urgent medical assessment rather than a routine appointment.

Back pain with bladder, bowel or saddle-area symptoms

New bladder or bowel control problems, or numbness around the inner thighs, buttocks or genital area, requires immediate emergency assessment.

Sudden or progressive weakness

New or worsening weakness in an arm, leg, hand or foot — including a foot that drags or catches while walking.

Rapidly worsening numbness

Numbness that is spreading quickly, becoming more severe or affecting both limbs.

Hot, red and swollen joint

A joint that is hot, red, swollen and increasingly painful, particularly with fever, may indicate infection.

Systemic symptoms with bone or joint pain

Fever, unexplained weight loss, night sweats or feeling generally unwell alongside bone, joint or spine pain.

Severe unrelenting night or rest pain

Significant pain that remains severe at rest or at night and is not relieved by changing position.

Diabetic foot changes

Any foot wound, ulcer, blister, colour change or a hot swollen foot in a person with diabetes — even if it appears minor or is not painful.

Unable to bear weight or visible deformity

Inability to stand or walk on an injured limb, or a limb that appears visibly deformed or out of shape.

Cold, pale or numb hand or foot after injury

A cold, pale or poorly perfused hand or foot, particularly when associated with numbness following an injury.

Injury with known osteoporosis or weak bones

Even a relatively minor fall can cause a significant fracture when bones are known to be fragile.

Child with limp, fever or developmental regression

A child who refuses to bear weight, has a limp with fever, or loses a skill they previously had needs prompt assessment.

Both ankles swollen with breathlessness or chest symptoms

This may represent a general medical rather than orthopaedic problem and requires urgent medical assessment.

If you are unsure whether your symptoms belong on this list, it is safer to seek urgent medical assessment.
